How to Make Your Platform Come Alive
I just received an email that brought back fond memories from TED this spring. It was about the Audacious Project, which is a collection of five “causes” that TEDsters can participate in. It’s a great way to make a difference.
This is also a great example of how passion projects can demonstrate our platform. Let’s drill down and see what we can copy from them.
My favorite example from the Audacious Project: the Bail Project. Robin Steinberg took a big problem – justice – and found a starting point where small changes can make a huge difference. By focusing on that small change, she made participation simple and easy. She had a specific “ask,” plus her system is scalable to other cities – all the makings of a great passion project.
Listen: The secret place to find your passion project
Get started by asking yourself this: What cause reflects my perspective? For example, if you’re a guru in change management, what change can you participate in? If you play in the diversity field, what cause implements your values? You can partner with an organization or start your own movement.
Give folks something specific to do, make it easy, and make the system scalable. Collect the heartwarming stories along the way. This is how perspective goes to work.
