2 Super Skills That Are About to Become Standard
We in the U.S. just said goodbye to summer with a three-day weekend celebrating labor. I use this time to assess the world of work, so a recent Fast Company article about the top five job skills one needs for the future got my attention.
From a thought leadership perspective, the piece is a great example of being relevant: It addresses a scary future in which machine learning and artificial intelligence are credible yet unknowable threats. We can definitely use that tactic, too.
Let’s look past that, though, and check out the skills. Two out of the five – personal brand and having a tribe – are about standing out. That means who we are matters just as much as what we can do.

Watch for the industry of influence to skyrocket. We’re going to hear many more voices in the marketplace and a lot more white noise. In the very near future, standing out, as well as creating a community, will no longer be a differentiator. These attributes will become the standard.
