How Recent Layoffs Are Shaping the Future of Leadership
Have you noticed a lot of layoffs rocking your clients’ worlds? What you’re seeing is just the beginning of a massive shift in cost-cutting, according to a recent Business Journal article.
These layoffs matter to us because they center on the managerial level. These are folks who attend industry events and corporate leadership conferences. The ripple effect is gonna be huge. (Speakers, I’m looking at you.)
After the massacre, new emerging needs will present opportunities for some leading thinkers. Two predictions from my crystal ball:
• The rise in personal branding. Standing out from your peers has become a survival skill. Watch for personal branding training both inside and outside organizations to take center stage. (Industry associations will be all over this.) The focus: Applying current talents in new ways and creating narratives that prove these leaders are worth keeping.
• Transition to new skills. Transitioning from being a “how to do it” manager to a coach and employee engagement expert will require new learning initiatives. The focus will be on skills that can’t be automated.
In the short term, these layoffs make it difficult to justify new investments outside of AI. At some point, though, the smoke will clear, and organizations will prepare for what’s next. You want to be top of mind when that happens.
