The Secret to Creating Effective Visual Content
As visual content becomes essential in content marketing, you must ensure that your pieces are visually appealing and help readers understand your points. Simple changes, from color to design, can radically improve your visual content.
Column Five has 10 content design tips and an infographic to help you. Items on their list include:
Color: Use no more than five colors in a single layout.
Typography: All fonts should be legible and appropriate for the communication style.
Layout: Present content in a way that guides readers through it in a logical hierarchy.
2 Big Mistakes Thought Leaders Make with Visual Content
Thought leaders often don’t have the design skills for creating visual content, so they make mistakes. Don’t be ashamed. It happens to the best of us. Two of the biggest but easy-to-correct mistakes are:
• Including too much in a small space. In their desire to educate, thought leaders regularly pack a lot of information into a small container. Negative space, however, lets the reader breathe and focus on your insights. Forcing people to drink from a firehose is not effective.
• Adding too many data points. Visual content based on research gets a lot of attention, so it’s tempting to include a lot of data in your pieces. Don’t. Instead, create a web page that has all the data (simple charts, graphs, and factoids) and include a link to that page for people who want more information.
In a world of dazzling graphics, don’t get lost among all the bells and whistles available for creating visual content. B2B buyers want eye-catching, easy-to-read content, not Hollywood-style productions.
