HR Trends Create Opportunities for Corporate Coaches
Do you want to do more work with larger organizations? To help you determine those buyers’ needs, check out this study from IBM, Accelerating the Journey to HR 3.0. The report looks at the state of human resources (HR) and how it is ripe for disruption.
I like that a high number of executives participated in the research (1,500), as well as the global perspective of it. The best part of this report, however, are the 10 action areas critical to HR.
Opportunities for Corporate Coaches
The HR study brings to light two killer opportunities for corporate coaches:
• Conversations. Part of continuous feedback (#1 on the list) is mastering complex conversations. This is more than communication skills. Empathic leadership will be critical this year. Coaches with a training bent will have the inside edge. Idea: Get granular. Know how your help impacts on-the-ground situations. And bump up your “do this, don’t do that” perspective. Leave the 30,000 view for sales pitches and to get initial buy-in.
Listen: Expand Your Role with Corporate Clients
• New leadership skills. Two big things are worth your attention. First, more companies use artificial intelligence to identify high-potential leaders and required skills. Second, notice the gap between the critical need for agile practices (more than two-thirds of respondents said agility is key) with the perceived capabilities (less than half). Idea: Put an “agility” lens on your work. In other words, how can you help increase performance in volatile environments? And be prepared to back that up.
Getting lucrative partnerships within Corporate America is easier said than done. Having great insights isn’t enough. You have to turn your methodology into a system that can run without you — a system that can be embedded in an organization. Proceed accordingly.
