How to Brand Your New Book to Make You Rich
Did you write that book you always wanted to during the pandemic? Well, you’re not alone. And the flood of new books coming this fall will make previous noisy markets look like silence.
The standard media blitz likely will not work, so switch strategies. Instead of expecting the book to make you famous, brand your book to make you rich.
Brand Your Book to Drive Opportunities
Here are two ways books can drive new opportunities:
• From speaking to partnerships. Before the pandemic, books were great door-openers to speaking engagements. If you had a popular book, the higher you could charge. After the glut, though, authorship will no longer be a differentiator. Plus, more buyers will speakers to waive their fees. Plan B: Make your book ideal for sponsors. Ask yourself: Does this book position me as a partner? Be brutally honest here.
• From advisory to enterprise-wide. A lot of coaches, consultants, etc. are writing about what they witness. Fair enough. But a book can be a conduit to larger opportunities that don’t require days of client interviews and conversations. Plan B: Make your book a showcase for a broader approach that goes beyond your current services. Ask yourself: Can this book be used in a wide variety of formats? Can my ideas scale?
