Businesses, Like People, Need Routines
I’m back home from our annual cross-country road trip. As usual, we had a blast beating the Phoenix heat with our family and friends. What I noticed: The trips to New England are more exploratory than our drives back. After two months on the road, we start to crave the routines and comfort of home.
I think this happens in businesses, too. Ever notice how productive you feel when your systems are humming along? How long-term clients become easier to serve? We miss that steadiness when the markets (or a global pandemic) disrupt things we regularly do.
The past two years has changed so much that many of us no longer feel solid. The ground feels like it’s constantly shaking. Here’s a possible antidote: Create a way of doing things that brings back that foundation of confidence.
