Commitment and Sacrifice
Talk about David and Goliath stories. The Russian invasion of Ukraine reminds us of what sacrifice looks like when the odds are against us. That the biggest armies don’t always win quickly. And most importantly, a lot of people giving what they can makes a difference.
The biggest lesson for me: the many shades of commitment. It’s easy to commit when the sacrifice feels temporary. (Sure, I can endure high gas prices for a while.) But when neighborhoods and hospitals get bombed, commitment takes a different shape. Watching people from all walks of life risk their lives, fighting the odds of a powerful enemy … It just brings tears to my eyes.
There’s a big difference between inconvenience and sacrifice. We are the lucky ones.
This past weekend, we honored our United States military members who died in war. Let’s expand our remembrance to also celebrate Ukrainian citizens’ determination, honor … and their hearts.
There is no sacrifice without commitment.
