Do These Two Things to Get Ready For the Next Level

Are you ready for the big journey ahead?

What a lot of folks don’t know about me: I use eight benchmarks to decide who I can help. I won’t list them here (Why? Nobody cares.) but I want to expand on one: readiness for the big journey ahead. Here are two things you can do to figure out your own inclination for the next level:

1. Try it out on your own: A big question folks ask me is “Why can’t I do this myself?” There are many reasons why. The sharpest knife can’t carve it’s own handle. To know for sure: try it yourself for a limited time. Give yourself a strict deadline (45 days is good), step back and assess.

If you can’t make significant progress in 45 days, get someone else to do what you need. The key: Be tough on yourself. Don’t make excuses, such as you have no time, something else came up, blah blah blah. If you can’t get it done, it’s better to know as soon as possible. (And yes, I do this to myself.)

2. Decide to decide: If someone goes on and on about how excited they are about their impact, then says, “I need your help, but I’m on the road for the next three months,” get out fast. Why? Because logistics won’t stop folks who are ready. There are always pockets of time to assess an opportunity: on an airplane, while working out, in the shower. Using any outside forces as a reason not to move forward is a clue. Ask yourself: what is behind this hesitancy? The answer will help you get off the dime.

No matter how much we want something, there is always a fear of the unknown—that we really don’t know what we’re signing up for. Unresolved hesitancy will insidiously show up every step of the way. Get ready, and all the help you need will magically appear.
