Do This to Make Your Content Go Viral
How many times do you get tired of all those “free offers” to give your brilliance up without getting paid – to give you exposure? If so, you’re gonna love this rant by a writer who goes off on those who demand free stuff — “Dear Broke Reader: Your Sense of Entitlement is Killing Me.”
Humor aside, this post is a great example of a very effective technique that can make any content sharable. Here’s a one-two punch any of us can use:
• Step 1: Create a villain. Check out the opening paragraph. Doesn’t that person make your blood boil? This is a great example of the power of a bad guy. When we have something to rail against, we create a frame that justifies speaking up. Villains are also a great reason to keep reading.
Listen: How to create a villain without looking like a bully yourself
• Step 2: Show empathy. Now that we’re all pissed off, look at what the author does next. She empathizes with the perps. Yep, she expands the understanding by explaining the very human emotions behind the entitlement. Is this a great twist or what?
Many thought leaders rant. The problem: They don’t go far enough to create visceral reactions. Next time you want to rail against something, try this process. It’s powerful.
