Don’t Give Up On that New Marketing Idea Just Yet
Silence. It’s the hardest thing to interpret. And when it happens after you launch a new marketing idea, chances are you make up stories about why and then give up on it before giving it a chance to work.
Before you jump ship, ask a bigger question: Is the strategy wrong or do you need to adjust your tactics? Tinkering with the latter is easier than overhauling your marketing strategy. To determine the better course of action, drill down on your implementation in these two areas:
• The pitch: Just because one pitch didn’t work, it doesn’t mean the entire strategy is off market. Listen to the objections and ask yourself: What can I offer instead that’s just as valuable? Acknowledge what you do have and pitch the value of that. You want buyers to think, “What I get is worth giving up what I thought I needed.”
• The prospects: Sometimes you pitch to the wrong people. Think about who you reach out to before taking their rejections to heart. A common example: Are your fees really too high or do you target a lot of people who are bargain hunters?
