Don’t Let Competitors Poach Your Clients
The COVID-19 pandemic caused marketers to change strategies and target new customer segments, and that shift is here to stay.
According to the State of Marketing report by Salesforce, 38% of marketers say new customer acquisition is a top redirection, and 68% declare the strategy change is permanent. This is a surprise, given economic concerns and the previous focus on customer loyalty.
This trend means your buyers face a lot of new temptations every day in terms of products and services. You can no longer assume that having a great relationship with your client is enough to ward off possible competitors. You have options, though. Here are two ways to keep clients loyal and prevent competitors from taking them:
• Come to their rescue: Sometimes, problems arise that are outside your agreement with the customer. You may not want to fix the problem for free, but you could help them. Examples: Share your networks, your relationships, etc., to help them find a solution. People remember those who are there for them in times of trouble. Be one of those folks.
• Make your process nimble: Clients’ needs change. You may not be able to change the project’s scope, but you can change your process. Can you cut back on one area to justify giving more in another? Many times, you can. Adapting to your client’s world provides peace of mind that shows you’re in their corner no matter what.
Many of us are great resources to our clients. In this hyper-competitive marketplace, it’s time to become an advocate. Resources are everywhere, advocates much less so.
