How to Decide What to Change
Happy New Year! I hope y’all are off and running to make 2018 your best year yet.
Every year during the holiday retreat, I like to reassess my business processes. Are there better ways to get the same outcome? I also look at my bills by asking myself: Do I really need what I’m paying for or is it time to let go?
What I’ve learned: The “why” behind the process or the purchase can be obsolete. The assumptions we make about how we do things become so ritualized that we forget to question them. For years, I’ve done some things a certain way because of “quality.” But is that really the same thing in a rapidly changing market? Nope. What a reality check.
Listen: How to know when it’s time to move on
As I kickoff my year of “simple,” I learn that big standards such as “quality” are really moving targets. What was considered top notch may not be so now. When we apply today’s definition to yesterday’s processes, we know what to change.
