How to Find Your Passion Project
I’ve written a lot about the strategic advantage in making your platform come alive with on-the-ground ventures. Passion projects are things we can do to make the world a better place while implementing our brilliance.
A recent Fast Company article about Chris Finlay, managing partner of Middleburg Real Estate Partners, and how he helps homeless people get jobs is a great example. Two things we can borrow from Finlay:
• Bigger isn’t better: Too many of us think we have to go big or go home. Nope. It’s OK to make a smaller impact that can scale later if successful. Now that Finlay has the system down, his non-profit can partner with those who have infrastructure.

• Matchmaking rules: Note that this effort isn’t a contest or celebration, ideas we’ve discussed before. You don’t have to have a gala if you don’t want to. Mutual benefit is usually a media favorite. So, ask yourself: Who needs whom?
It’s very tempting to be a content machine, churning out insights and infographics. But as we head into the holiday season, perhaps we should step back and ask ourselves: What can our ideas do on the ground?
