How to Move to a Bigger Market
You’ve worked hard to stand out in your industry. Now it’s time to take your brilliance to a bigger stage. Just keep doing what you are doing, right?
Not so fast. In this interview with Pam and Scott Harper, I explain why this adventure is very different.
Let’s drill down on what I didn’t have time to explore. The biggest mistake folks make is to assume that what made them different in their industry is considered standard in the new environment.
Here’s what happens: When everyone is successful, has a great story and has a track record of results, these achievements become the status quo. In a sea of good ideas, the status quo doesn’t get past the first round of consideration. The result: Folks get labeled as talented but non-descript. They become popular but not profitable.
The path out of this pitfall: Represent a perspective that creates a visceral reaction. This requires more than sharpening your message. You have to apply your brilliance in a very strategic way — also known as turning your message into a movement.
So, don’t rely on what you’ve done to get into bigger markets. Use your achievements as a springboard to a bigger cause.
