In my last post, we explored color commentary. My confession: Between client work and traveling, I often fall behind on my reading. Articles languish in my “to be read” email file. So, what happens when I find something I want to write about?

Well, here’s what I don’t do: color commentary. It’s too late for that. Instead, we can use old news in two ways:

• As an example of a great idea. When we see other folks do something we like, we want to apply it ourselves. I like to point out what they did well and how we can do the same thing in our space. This is great for the visual learners in your community, as they can “see” your idea in action.

• As structure for a process. As a systems thinker, I love to strip down a dynamic into steps that replicate the same scenario. The “here’s how that works in our world” angle is popular for the DIY-er’s in your community.
