Latest Media Trends For Thought Leaders
Whether we like it or not, engaging the media is now a must-have for thought leaders. And what these journalists want is a moving target, according to these trend reports.
Media expert (and favorite person) Dan Janal has these spot-on predictions about what reporters need now. Pay attention to what he says about influence: yes, even journalists are being evaluated by page clicks, too. Our help in getting their stories about us out will quickly become an expectation. Your social media influence will become a criteria for journalists looking for sources.
Although Vocus State of the Media report 2014 uses 2013 data, we can still act on the findings. The biggest surprise here: the trust in information coming from social media. Almost half of reporters surveyed rate what they get here between 5-7 on a scale from 1 to 10 (ten being very trustworthy). Translation: we can easily build relationships online with reporters by commenting on their stories, give them relevant information about their beat and go from there. It’s time-consuming and tedious, but not difficult. PR firms better get more strategic or risk being disrupted.
