Recognizing Essential Workers this Labor Day

This Labor Day tip your hat to essential workers who make sure we are well cared for so we can serve our clients.

In the U.S., we’re heading into a holiday weekend that celebrates work: Labor Day. To say this year has been different is an understatement. 2020 will go down in history as the time when essential workers were redefined.

We learned what happens to grocery stores shelves when people who work in meat-packing plants and on farms get sick. We saw how health workers have to use trash bags as personal protection equipment (PPE) when supply is low – or non-existent. And when we turned to online shopping out of fear of getting or spreading the novel coronavirus, warehouse workers and delivery drivers filled the need. Those folks go to work every day knowing they could contract a virus that could change their life.

Do the rest of us work hard? Sure. We definitely put in the hours and give clients all we’ve got. But do we put our health on the line every time we get on Zoom call? Nope. I am well aware that I work in a bubble of safety. And I can do that because other folks are willing to risk their health.

As we celebrate workers everywhere, let’s tip our hats to the essential employees who make sure we are well cared for so we can serve our clients. Their sacrifice and risk are much bigger this year.

Happy Labor Day weekend, and let’s stay safe out there!
