The #1 Reason Why We Get The Wrong Help
We were finishing up our work when the client said, “Oh, just one more thing. Take a look at what (insert other vendor) did.”
What?! That wasn’t even mentioned during our scope of work conversation. It didn’t take too long, so I did it anyway. Why she inserted a third party into our work: she trusted them. The problem: that trust was based on a distant past and not what was needed now. The good news: the work was OK, so I tweaked it a little and was done.
Talk about dodging a bullet. I’ve seen many disasters that start with, “Well, I knew Billy Bob when we lived next door 20 years ago…” (Yes, I’m exaggerating to make a point.)
Trust is critical. If we don’t trust the person, we’re not buying. And…when we put trust ahead of what we need, it rarely works out. Just because we trust someone, it doesn’t mean that they have the skills we need.
This is the #1 reason why implementation plans (and partnerships) go awry: we get the wrong help.
