Just when I thought I was done talking about meeting trends, this MPI (Meeting Professionals International) article popped up. The findings are significant enough to warrant our attention.
In the spirit of personalization and engagement, more meetings will be smaller, more niched and with shorter sessions. Does this emphasis on the experience change how we talk about our speaking? You betcha.
What changes do we thought leaders as speakers need to make? I see a progression. In the good ol’ days, a speaker used their topics as a starting point. Nowadays we use impact in terms of changed behavior and perspectives. But that won’t last forever.

Prediction: We will expand our impact to include how the audience feels before and after our presentations. How they feel about what they’ve learned and what they can do with the experience. We need to rethink the kind of experiences we will employ to connect with attendees.
Speakers who appear serious about creating the intangible will be seen as cutting-edge partners instead of vendors. Proceed accordingly.
