OK, there are many reasons why we don’t write that blog post, promote our thinking, etc. The most hidden reason I’ve seen: lack of clarity.

I run across this scenario a lot: Your colleagues tell you to write a book or start blogging, so when a vendor comes along to help, you jump at the chance. Halfway into the process, though, progress grinds to a halt. You know something is off, but you can’t put your finger on it. Things look OK but … something’s not right.

What just happened: Lack of clarity stalled the process. That content sounds like you — just not the best version of “you” to bring to the market. What happens next: nothing. Because you can’t figure out which direction to take your story and your perspective. And more ideas will not help you.

Listen: 2 things you gotta get clear about

One brilliant person said to me: “If I have a direction, I can write for three days. But I can’t stand it when someone says, ‘I need three blog posts,’ and I can’t figure out what to write.” That right there is how procrastination is born.

In this crazy market, quantity will not replace lack of clarity. When you’re clear on that underlying theme of all your content, you’ll be surprised how fast and furious those ideas come.
