Speakers, stop doing a happy dance over the surge of in-person meetings. The slow economy has caused companies to tighten their spending belts, and business travel has been impacted, according to an article in Finance & Commerce.
The ripple effect is obvious: Less travel means fewer meetings from Corporate America. It also means attendance will drop at both marketing meetings and association events. The former will scale back; the latter will have less budget for speakers.
These dynamics are outside our control, so we can’t brand around it. Instead, think about bigger relationships with associations. Ask yourself: How can I give more so that my speaking fee isn’t perceived as just for presentations?
