To Get Speaker Gigs, Be More Than Standard
In my previous post, I discussed supply and demand in speaker selection. My point: What is abundant is now the standard, not the differentiator.
Let’s expand that rant to how to position your thought leadership. Many brilliant people lead with their weakest link. And then can’t figure out why they don’t rise above the noise.
A common example: Folks assume their stellar background and track record is enough to make their stand out. Newsflash: They aren’t.
Now, let’s be clear. I’m not throwing shade on anyone’s achievements. I know you overcame a lot of challenges and barriers to get where you are today. The problem: so did a lot of other people. And they are out promoting their thought leadership, too. That’s why leading with your background isn’t enough.

Instead, use your story as a springboard. Ask yourself this: As a result of my achievements, what is the one thing that made all the difference? What do I advocate now? Those answers will put your brilliance into context. And they will build a bridge to a killer platform that will make you stand out.
