What “Experiential Meetings” Really Look Like
Yep, “experiential” is one of those buzzwords in the meetings industry that has been (and will be) around for a while. Why? Because many folks believe it’s the edge that live events have over attendance-killing online learning and content.
That is why a recent Successful Meetings article outlining specific ideas on experiential design matters to thought leaders who give presentations. The best takeaways from the article:
• Immersive content. Sure, not every event will copy SXSW’s plan, but you better believe there will be some smaller-scale inventions coming up. How you can play: Instead of creating interactive experiences, how about solving a real problem in real time? That would be using your perspective in a practical way. What a concept.
• The element of surprise. Watch for some event designers do things that provoke the attendees. So, ask yourself: “What can I do to surprise these folks?” And it can’t be your content. Can it be a game, like “Family Feud” (industry style)? A talk-show format? What can you do to get folks out of their comfort zones?
Right now, “experiences” is a widely used term that means a variety of things. The Successful Meetings article makes the concept concrete by providing specific examples. Use them to create your own.
