What Independent Consultants REALLY Think
As meetings were canceled by the droves during the Great Recession, many experts looked around and said, “hey, I think I’ll be a consultant”. This study by M Squared Consulting (who creates an army of implementers) gets inside the minds of these lone wolfs working as subcontractors.
My favorite findings:
- A majority — 28% — have been on duty for only 1-5 years. That is about the same rate (25%) of those reporting that their primary motivation was in response to layoffs.
- Only 19% cited owning a business as the primary reason for being a consultant. This explains a lot of my conversations with these folks.
