What Is Your Legacy?
Today I bring very sad news. My business colleague and close friend Dave Gardner has passed away. As I absorb the idea of our conversations ending, I realize the full range of what legacy really means.
Dave was an innovative consultant. I’m sure his clients loved his ideas, his work. But Dave’s legacy lies in the little moments, those interactions and conversations that create the stories we tell at funerals.
In this case, Dave’s positivity and generosity showed up in every interaction. He’d help friends and strangers alike, no strings attached. And, seriously, we could be in the middle of a massive natural disaster, and Dave would say something like, “Ya know, I’m feeling really good about this next chapter in our lives…”
So, while we are all out there doing great things to make the world a better place, let’s not forget how we show up in those small moments. Put those instances together, and the impact will rival any accomplishment.
I greatly miss my weekly pandemic conversations with Dave. But Dave’s bright light still shines on.
