What Makes Compelling Stories Stick
Have you ever heard a speaker tell a fabulous story and said to yourself, “Hey, I could do that, too!“ You’re not alone. Thanks to all the presentation coaches out there, the speaker circuit is flooded with master storytellers.
The problem: Stories are great at generating emotional reactions, but few of them sustain the buzz after the applause. Many stories are forgotten as soon as the next tale comes along.
The difference maker is what media insiders call the “money line.” It’s a killer statement or punch line that spreads like wildfire. Celebrity interviews have at least one that media outlets use to promote their piece.
Here’s why they work: Money lines leverage the emotional reaction the story creates and directs that energy to something that can be repeated. They are short and usually have strong mental pictures.
